RICHeS IHQ UK National Node

As the UK’s National Node of E-RIHS, RICHeS IHQ will serve as a the link between the UK and Europe, facilitating access to cutting-edge research infrastructure, fostering collaborative research opportunities and providing comprehensive training programs through the E-RIHS HS Academy.  

RICHeS IHQ brings together a consortium of Access Providers, each offering access to expertise and state-of-the-art conservation and heritage science facilities. These partnerships play a vital role in strengthening the UK’s position within the E-RIHS ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium), and contribute to key goals such as: 

  • Enabling new research opportunities in conservation and heritage science 
  • Enhancing transnational access to research infrastructure across the UK and Europe 
  • Contributing to the global effort to safeguard and better understand cultural heritage for future generations

UK National Node Access Providers 

The following institutions serve as Access Providers for the E-RIHS UK National Node, offering some of the most advanced heritage science facilities and expertise in the world: 

  • British Museum  
  • Historic England 
  • Nottingham Trent University 
  • The National Gallery  
  • University College London  
  • University of York  

These Access Providers form the backbone of the UK’s contribution to E-RIHS, helping to shape the future of conservation and heritage science through collaboration, research, and innovation. 

The role of the UK National Node

As the UK National Node, RICHeS IHQ plays a central role in supporting and advancing conservation and heritage science both within the UK and across Europe. Its key responsibilities include: 

  • Providing UK-based heritage science facilities, collections and expertise to the central E-RIHS catalogue of services, ensuring that UK resources are accessible to the global research community. 
  • Coordinating and promoting E-RIHS activities across the UK, connecting UK researchers with European and international collaborators.
  • Representing the UK’s conservation and heritage science community at the Committee of National Nodes and within other central E-RIHS initiatives, ensuring that the UK’s contributions are reflected in the broader E-RIHS strategy.
