Investment Overview
The Centre for Digital Modelling and Analysis, for Conservation and Heritage (D-MACH) provides access to cutting-edge 3D-modelling and non-destructive scientific analyses for heritage science researchers. The facility offers a complete and object-specific workflow from 3D model generation, through Raman, XRF or hyperspectral spectroscopy, micro-CT imaging, to digital asset and data delivery. The team are particularly focused on supporting smaller GLAM-sector institutions who may not have the time or funding to access these kinds of analyses through traditional research routes but welcome any individual or organisation from across the university, commercial or heritage sectors.
RICHeS investment has enabled the D-MACH lab to take form, providing funding for new equipment and specialist staff to support analysis. This investment has significantly enhanced Manchester Metropolitan University’s capacity to deliver impactful heritage science services to a diverse range of partners, from small local museums to national institutions. Through these collaborations, advanced heritage science technology is becoming more accessible to the GLAM sector, supporting the interpretation of and engagement with heritage materials.
