From Land to Sea: a facility for prospection, landscapes and people

Organisation: University of Bradford
Principal investigator:
Catherine Batt

Investment Overview

From Land To Sea is a Mobile Laboratory with a focus on the ability to work in traditionally ‘difficult’ landscapes, particularly wetland, littoral and immediate coastal zones. With expert support, the facility puts the tools for site and landscape investigation into the hands of researchers, professionals and community groups throughout the UK and internationally. The cutting-edge tools available include airborne equipment and systems capable of being deployed from non-specialist small boats.

RICHeS investment has enabled the acquisition of new equipment, upgrades to older equipment acquired under the AHRC Capability for Collections (CapCo) funding and for a specialist post to facilitate access to the techniques on offer and to train users and help plan and execute their surveys. The investment has also created capacity to work with equipment manufacturers to develop innovative solutions for agile prospection. The facility empowers rapid response to changing conditions driven by infrastructure development and climate change, facilitating comprehensive exploration of submerged and near coastal landscapes globally.
