Investment Overview
Perfform, Welsh for ‘‘Perform’’, leverages heritage science to analyse and optimise the performance of built heritage structures across Wales, enhancing the sustainability and liveability of historic buildings while preserving their cultural and architectural significance. This facility provides services for surveying historic buildings and internal environments, characterising heritage materials, studying decay processes and investigating conservation treatments. Expertise in object conservation, collections care, archaeometry, corrosion, architectural architecture and structural engineering are available to support the application of the broad equipment portfolio.
Bringing together experts from Conservation, Archaeology and the Welsh School of Architecture for the first time, the team can now provide a complete service for understanding historic structures from artefacts to buildings. RICHeS investment has enabled the development of an upgraded suite of analytical and survey equipment, building on AHRC Capability for Collections (CapCo) investment, supported by dedicated staffing. This enables access to the equipment and expertise, empowering stakeholders to adopt sustainable strategies and ensuring the long-term conservation of Wales’s rich architectural and cultural heritage.
