The heritage science community mourns the recent loss of Professor Austin Nevin of the Courtald’s Department of Conservation. His work on spectroscopy and chemistry of pigments was world-leading.
His research and career exemplified the excellence and possibilities of heritage science. He promoted and worked actively in transdisciplinary research including preventative conservation, technical art history, conservation practice and conservation science. Professor Austin successfully led a £1 million project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Councils’ Capability for Collections Fund for the upgrading of scientific instrumentation in Conservation at The Courtauld. He will be greatly missed.
His enthusiasm and passion for heritage science inspired the community. Our thoughts are with his family at this time, and we offer our sincere condolences.
