The Heritage Science Data Service is one of 31 projects funded through the RICHeS Tranche 1 investment. This pivotal project provides core digital research services to unlock innovation in heritage science and conservation research. Earlier this year, we shared blogs introducing the HSDS and highlighting the consortium behind this project.
Led by a growing team at the University of York, the HSDS is being developed collaboratively by the consortium and delivered in partnership with STFC’s Hartree Centre.
We are delighted to kick off our one-year RICHeS celebration with the launch of the HSDS Catalogue of Services and Data Catalogue, alongside the HSDS Small Grants Programme which is open for applications. While the catalogues are still in progress, user feedback is welcomed as the HSDS team works towards becoming fully operational.
HSDS Catalogue of Services
The HSDS Catalogue of Services provides an easy-to-use resource for discovering services across the RICHeS distributed infrastructure. This catalogue will enhance accessibility to research facilities, reference collections and expertise across the UK. Please explore the catalogue and its filters, such as Region, Organisation, Technique and Asset Type to find out more.
HSDS Data Catalogue
The HSDS Data Catalogue collates Heritage Science Data archives from across the UK, making resources and research data findable, accessible and easy to navigate. This curated body of data will serve as the primary discovery tool for UK heritage science, supporting research across the heritage sector and beyond. Additional data will continue to be added in the coming months.
Through these services, the HSDS unlocks access to datasets from completed research and the wider RICHeS distributed infrastructure, enabling further innovation and collaboration. RICHeS IHQ will continue to highlight progress across this distributed infrastructure throughout October.
HSDS Small Grants Programme
Applications are now open for the HSDS Service Small Grants Programme, welcoming applications from across the UK heritage sector, including universities, UKRI Independent Research Organisations (IRO’s), museums, archives, galleries and community partners.
The programme offers two funding streams:
- Stream 1: Enhance Access to Heritage Resources (up to £25,000)
- Stream 2: Build Virtual Research Environments (up to £15,000)
RICHeS IHQ are delighted to see the HSDS teams achievements over the past year, reflecting their dedication and hard work. Both teams look forward to sharing more from this pivotal investment of the RICHeS programme.
