Reusable digital workflows for heritage bridge documentation, conservation and presentation (ReDiW–Bridge)

Project summary

This project will use high-resolution laser scanning to create detailed digital records of five heritage bridges in the City of Bath, integrating these with historical maps, drawings and archival records to improve understanding of their history, condition and evolution. The resulting 3D models will be incorporated into a geographic information system and deposited in a long-term digital repository, creating accessible resources for research, conservation and public engagement.

The project will establish a reusable digital workflow for documenting and managing heritage bridges, demonstrating how digital survey technologies can support evidence-based conservation and proactive maintenance. By combining heritage science, digital documentation and historical research, the project will improve the long-term management of Bath’s historic infrastructure while developing approaches that can be applied to heritage bridges elsewhere.
