Project summary
This project will use advanced coastal survey technologies to create the first integrated high-resolution digital record of the Isle of Staffa, combining bathymetric survey, UAV-mounted LiDAR, photogrammetry and geophysical investigation to document its caves, coastline, archaeological remains and landscapes. The research will generate new evidence for the island’s natural and cultural history, supporting investigations into prehistoric occupation, historic graffiti, coastal change and the dynamic relationship between people and this internationally significant maritime environment.
The project will provide a unique digital dataset to support interdisciplinary research, conservation and site management while developing new approaches for surveying challenging coastal heritage locations. By combining heritage science, archaeology and environmental research, the findings will improve understanding of Staffa’s changing landscape, inform the management of this nationally important heritage site and create new opportunities for public engagement, education and future research.
